A removable brace is an appliance made of plastic and wires which clips onto the upper or lower teeth and can be taken out of the mouth. A lot of people feel that these are old-style braces and wrongly call them “retainers” (which are something different). However, they can be used solely to treat minor tooth problems or can be used in conjunction with “train tracks” to greatly simplify complicated treatments. Success depends heavily on the patient adhering to the suggestions of the orthodontist. Sometimes, the patient will be instructed to wear the removable braces while eating, whereas sometimes he/she will be allowed to remove the braces during his/her meals. Either way, it’s important to not stray from the decided regimen.
