- Brush 3 times a day for 5 minutes each time
- Make sure all the teeth and gum margins are brushed
- Brush around each block under the wire and the margin of the tooth and gum
- There should be no creamy debris (plaque) left on the teeth and gums
- At the start of your brace treatment chew a plaque disclosing tablet after brushing to see if you’re missing some spots
- Throughout the treatment use a fluoride mouthwash once a day for 1 minute separate to brushing – spit out, don’t rinse out
- Bleeding gums are a sign you are not brushing enough or correctly
- You should never attend your orthodontist with a dirty mouth
